Every year Pantone Color Institute announces a “Color of the Year” based on current and upcoming trends. Their choice influences design in all areas, including wedding design. For 2019, the Pantone color experts have chosen Living Coral. Per their website, “Living Coral is an animating and life-affirming coral hue with a golden undertone that energizes and enlivens with a softer edge.”
Fortunately, there are many flowers to choose from that fall in this color spectrum. From gerbera daisies to stock to peonies to roses, the options are many. Coral is also a neutral, in that it goes well with blues, greens and other reds on the color wheel.
Using Living Coral in Wedding Florals
When considering colors for your wedding, coral can be used as a primary or accent color. It mixes well with lighter spring hues. Consider a light blue or periwinkle and a sage green for early in the year.
Living Coral is just as lovely with darker fall tones and is an exceptional choice for a late summer or fall wedding. Coral is a lively accent with mustard yellow, bittersweet orange, and navy.
Replacing the brighter tones with a more muted palette as illustrated here by MagnetStreet, creators of unique personalized communication, also has a nice effect.
Since it comes from the red family, Living Coral could easily find its way into the merriment of reds in the winter and holiday season. Consider mixing it with more royal blues or regal purples.
Finding Inspiration in Nature and Design
Another way to understand its influence on other tones and colors is to look for Living Coral in nature, paint, home decor, and fashion. Take photos for a few days which include Living Coral or similar shades. You may be pleasantly surprised to see how often it presents itself.
